In the end and with a bit of coaxing from the Fédération, I decided to create a concept film revolving around the American flag: its iconography, its formalism, its weight and burden of blind patriotism. I wanted to have an extremely simple performance where the textile starts out as a veil or shroud before it is revealed as a flag. Exploring this symbolism presented an essential opportunity to support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization that works to protect individuals’ rights and liberties in the United States.
